Compare life insurance

Compare life insurance quotes using the cover you need, the length and structure of the policy, its terms and limitations, and the premium you would pay.

Look beyond the monthly premium to understand what each policy covers, how long it lasts and which features and exclusions apply.

Price is only one part of the comparison. Check the cover, term, definitions, exclusions, premium basis and final underwriting terms before deciding whether a policy meets your requirements.

How to compare life insurance

A useful comparison starts with the cover you need. Keep your main requirements consistent so you can see where policies genuinely differ. These seven steps provide a framework rather than a personal recommendation.

  1. 1

Decide what you want the policy to protect

Think about the mortgage, household bills, childcare, other borrowing or ongoing support your loved ones could face without your financial support.

  2. 2

Estimate how much cover you may need

Add up the commitments you want to address, then consider savings, workplace benefits or existing cover. Try our life insurance calculator.

  3. 3

Choose a potentially relevant type of cover

Level, decreasing and increasing policies work differently. Compare the structure that broadly reflects the financial need you want to protect.

  4. 4

    Compare the same policy term

A policy with an earlier end date might have a lower premium, but it also provides cover for less time.

  5. 5

    Request quotes using consistent information

Use the same applicants, cover amount, term and optional benefits, while answering every insurer’s questions accurately.

  6. 6

Check the cover, terms and price

Compare the benefit structure, premium basis, definitions, exclusions and included features using the final underwriting terms.

  7. 7

    Read the policy documents

Review the complete terms, schedule and insurer’s acceptance terms rather than relying on a summary or comparison table alone.

What should you compare besides price?

Price matters, but it doesn’t show the complete value or limitations of a policy. Use the final documents because features, definitions and exclusions vary.

What to compareWhat to check
Cover amountThe initial benefit and whether it remains level, decreases or increases
Length of coverThe start date, end date and any age limits
Premium basisWhether premiums are guaranteed, reviewable or change under stated rules
Exclusions and definitionsWhen a benefit may not be paid and the precise meanings used
Critical illness coverCovered conditions, definitions, severity requirements and exclusions
Policy flexibilityWhether and how cover, term or personal details can be changed
Cancellation termsCooling-off rights, permitted charges and what happens after that period
Underwriting outcomeThe final premium, exclusions and terms offered to the applicant
Support and claimsHow to contact the provider and what its claims process requires

Not every policy offers every feature. A feature name alone isn’t enough to establish equivalent protection.

Compare types of life insurance

Policy types differ in how long they can run and how the benefit changes. This overview is a starting point, not a substitute for the policy wording.

TypeWhat generally changesUseful comparison question
Level termCover normally stays fixed during the termHow could inflation affect the benefit’s real value?
Decreasing termCover reduces under the policy scheduleDoes the reduction broadly align with the intended liability?
Increasing termCover rises under the policy rulesHow and when do the cover and premium increase?
Whole-of-lifeCover is intended to continue for life if conditions are metHow long are premiums payable?
Family income benefitA valid claim normally provides regular payments for the remaining termHow does the potential benefit change near the end date?

With decreasing cover, a benefit designed to follow a repayment mortgage isn’t guaranteed to match or repay its outstanding balance.

Compare single and joint life insurance

Joint and separate policies can lead to different numbers of potential payouts and different options after a claim or change in circumstances.

A joint policy commonly pays once and then ends. Two single policies can potentially produce two separate payouts if both insured events occur while the relevant covers remain in force.

Joint cover may cost less than two comparable individual policies, but separate policies can provide more flexibility. Read about joint life insurance and single life insurance.

Compare life insurance providers

Provider comparison can be useful without treating one company as universally better than another.

  • Relevant products and eligibility rules
  • Policy wording, definitions and included features
  • Dated financial-strength information
  • Published claims statistics and their methodology
  • Customer support and claims routes
  • Availability through the relevant broker panel

Ratings and claims statistics don’t predict an individual application or claim. LifeNest doesn’t rank providers or identify a universal “best” insurer.

How the comparison journey works

The exact process will reflect the approved Reassured journey. It is broker contact rather than an automated results table unless prices genuinely appear on screen.

Why can prices and terms differ between insurers?

Insurers use different underwriting criteria, pricing models, minimum premiums and product rules. They may assess health, occupation, activities and other information differently.

One insurer’s decision doesn’t predict another’s, and an initial price may change after underwriting. Learn more about what affects the cost of life insurance.

Questions about comparing life insurance

Important points to check before deciding.

Can I compare life insurance if I have a medical condition?

You can investigate available cover, but insurers assess applications individually and may request more information before offering terms.

Can an initial quote change after underwriting?

Yes. After assessing the full application, the insurer may offer a different premium or terms, postpone its decision or decline the application.

Can I replace an existing life insurance policy?

Don’t cancel existing cover merely because you’ve requested a quote. Wait until new cover is confirmed in force, then compare both policies carefully.

Is the cheapest policy the best one?

Not necessarily. Compare the price alongside exclusions, definitions, premium basis and final underwriting terms.

When does life insurance cover start?

Only when the insurer confirms it is in force from the stated start date and any applicable conditions have been met.

Who will contact me?

Reassured Limited will continue the request. The approved purpose, contact method and timing will be shown before submission.
